THE SCROLL OF WHAT THE ABYSS ACTUALLY IS
(Correcting misconceptions about “hell” and punishment)
Written for those who refuse tradition,
who search the scriptures for truth,
and who seek to understand the realm Christ permits—but does not fear.
“And he opened the shaft of the abyss… and smoke ascended as from a great furnace.”
— Revelation 9:2
The abyss is restraint — not ruin.
The abyss is not a place of torment for humans—
it is a place of restraint for spirits.
Many were taught that the abyss is “hell.”
But Scripture never uses the abyss that way.
Instead, it describes a realm where beings are bound,
silenced, restricted, and held under Christ’s command.
For it is written:
“He did not spare the angels that sinned, but delivered them to pits of dense darkness.”
— 2 Peter 2:4
The abyss is not punishment—
it is imprisonment.
A holding place.
A restraint.
Even demons understood this realm, saying:
“Do not send us into the abyss!”
— Luke 8:31
They feared it—
not because fire waited there,
but because silence did.
No influence.
No authority.
No operation on earth.
The abyss represents divine restriction,
not fiery torture.
And when it opens in Revelation 9,
it is not to release damned souls—
but to release judgment forces
that expose corruption.
The abyss is a vault.
A furnace of spiritual obscurity.
A realm Christ unlocks only when truth
must confront corruption.
The abyss is not hell — it is the place where Christ holds back darkness until the time it must serve His purpose.
Parent & Shepherd Reflection: Teaching What the Abyss Truly Represents
Many believers misunderstand the abyss because tradition has replaced scripture. Shepherds must guide the flock to see the abyss as a realm of restraint, not fiery torment. Understanding this protects them from fear and strengthens trust in Christ’s absolute authority.
• The abyss restrains fallen spirits, not humans.
2 Peter 2:4 — “pits of dense darkness”
Reflection: Jehovah limits evil long before He destroys it.
• Even demons fear the abyss.
Luke 8:31 — “Do not send us into the abyss!”
Reflection: Their fear reveals its purpose: confinement, not torture.
• Christ opens the abyss only to reveal and judge corruption.
Revelation 9:2 — “the shaft of the abyss was opened”
Reflection: Darkness rises only to expose those who hid within it.
Teaching Prompt:
How can we help believers distinguish between the abyss, the Grave, and Gehenna so they understand Christ’s authority clearly?
The abyss is restraint—not ruin— and it serves the purpose of the King.
